Detailed Manufacturing Process:
The overmolding is a two-shot or insert molding process. First, the rigid PC substrate is injection molded. This "pre-form" is then placed into a second mold cavity where liquid silicone rubber (LSR) or high-consistency silicone rubber (HCR) is injected over it.
PC Molding: PC is processed at high temperatures of 280°C - 320°C with injection pressures of 800 - 1,500 bar.
Silicone Overmolding: LSR is typically processed at lower temperatures of 160°C - 200°C with precise control over injection pressure (150 - 500 bar) and cure time to ensure perfect bonding without distorting the PC part. The mold itself is often heated to 120°C - 180°C to facilitate curing.
